KOI

This koi design is fondly based off of a Mooncake Festival lantern from Malaysia. It was brought home as a souvenir and hung from the beams of our basement for my entire childhood. The design of these lanterns managed to get a lot of volume simply by setting a tapered distance between two shapes— a trick that I have adapted into many vases.

The Koi has rows of small stem holes between it’s top fins to hold stems. The interior is fully glazed and can hold a minimal amount of water to keep stems fresh. The tail is delicate from the side profile but is reinforced with a structural rib for stability.
